Atommash, AEM-Technologies, JSC Branch in Volgodonsk (a part of machine-building division of Rosatom - Atomenergomash) has shipped the Upper unit including the Reactor cover with nozzles, metal structures and CPS (control and protection system) drives for AKKUYU NPP, Unit No.1. The weight of the shipped items is 160 tons.

The Reactor cover is the main assembly of the Upper unit that is intended for sealing the Reactor main joint and preventing the Internals from floating up. The equipment has a platelike shape and is a pressed and welded structure consisting of a truncated ellipsoid and a large flange. On the Reactor cover there are nozzles used for connecting CPS drives.

The shipment will be performed by a combined method: from the plant, the item will be transported to the port in Rostov-on-Don where they will be loaded onto a river-sea vessel. Then the vessel will go along the Don, the Azov Sea, cross the Kerch Strait and get into the Black sea, after that cross the Bosphorus strait, the Marmara sea and the Dardanelles and by the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea it will reach AKKUYU NPP. The sea route will be about 3,000 km.

The Reactor cover, same as the Vessel, is equipment of safety class 1. The product life is 60 years with the possibility of life extension for another 20 years.

AKKUYU NPP is the first nuclear project in the world that is being implemented according to BOO model (build-own-operate). AKKUYU NPP project includes four power units with Russian Generation III+ reactors with increased safety and improved technical and economic characteristics. The capacity of every NPP power unit is 1200 Mwatt. The main stages of manufacturing are witnessed by the Nuclear Regulatory Agency in the Republic of Turkey.
