The Volgodonsk Branch of JSC "AEM-technology" "Atommash" (part of the machine-building division of Rosatom - Atomenergomash) performed the assembly of the upper semi-vessel of the Reactor for Unit 7 of the Tianwan NPS in China.
The assembly of the semi-vessel elements of the Reactor was carried out on a vertical assembly test bench. Workers connected two shells of the nozzle area and a flange in a vertical position. Further, the 150-ton assembly was turned into a horizontal position using a rotator and the item was moved to the welding test bench. The upper semi-vessel is now ready for welding two circumferential welds.
The Reactor is a vertical cylindrical vessel with an elliptical bottom, inside which the core and internals are located. From above, it is hermetically sealed with a Cover with installed drives of mechanisms and controls and protection of reactors and nozzles for outputting cables of sensors for in-reactor monitoring. In the upper part of the vessel, there are nozzles for supplying and removing the coolant, as well as nozzles for emergency supply of the coolant when the circuit is depressurized.
AEM-technology manufactures equipment for Chinese nuclear power stations as part of strategic cooperation between Russia and China, which was launched on May 19, 2021. In particular, it was decided that four new power units with VVER-1200 generation 3+ reactors would be built: Power Units No.7 and No.8 of the Tianwan NPS and Power Units No.3 and No.4 of the Xudapu NPS. It should be noted that Atommash has extensive experience in cooperation with Chinese partners. In 2004, the enterprise supplied transport and process equipment for the first units of the Tianwan NPS.
The "Tianwan" NPS is the largest object of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation, located in the city of Lianyungang (Jiangsu province). The first two power units with VVER-1000 reactors were built by Russian specialists and have been in commercial operation since 2007. In 2010, ROSATOM and the Chinese Nuclear Industry Corporation continued their cooperation and signed a general contract for the construction of the second stage of the station (power units No. 3 and No. 4). In 2018, the stage of putting into commercial operation the power units of the second stage was successfully completed.
Joint Stock Company "AEM-technology", founded in 2007 within the structure of JSC "Atomenergomash", a machine building division of the state corporation Rosatom, is currently one of the leading Russian companies in the field of power engineering, a member of the Union of Russian Machine Builders. The structure of the company includes an engineering center staffed with experienced designers and process-engineers, as well as two production sites: The Branch of JSC "AEM-technology" "Petrozavodskmash" in Petrozavodsk and the Branch of JSC "AEM-technology" Atommash in Volgodonsk.
