The Atommash security has been assessed by the participants of the International seminar on UN SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1540

The Volgodonsk Branch of JSC “AEM-technology” (part of the machine building division of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom - Atomenergomash) was visited by participants of the international seminar for contact points of the OSCE participating countries on the issues of the UN Security Council resolution 1540.

The guests learnt about the plant's history in the Atommash Museum, visited the main production facilities, and also appreciated the company's achievements in the field of security. The main topic of the visit has become security system over the dual-use goods and technologies and ensuring nuclear safety. Taking into account the topics of the international seminar, the representatives of the OSCE countries were interested in general outline of the scheme for protecting dangerous materials from falling into the hands of terrorists, the risks outline and cybersecurity.

The Quality Director of Volgodonsk Branch, Yuriy Etingen said: "On a regular basis, we organize the scheduled and unscheduled training to check the personnel behavior for the traces of the terrorist threat. In addition, together with the security service, we conducted a risk analysis and executed a document, describing the potential threats and a clear description of the actions in any emergency situation."

Concerning nuclear safety, at the moment the portable radionuclide flaw detectors, protective containers and radiation heads with protection, closed radionuclide sources for the calibration of diametric equipment are in use at Atommash. In addition, there are seven X-ray chambers in the production shop for the purpose of the equipment inspection.

"We are engaged in the adoption of state measures that protect dangerous materials in the nuclear, chemical and biological fields from terrorists. Today we were shown how the antiterrorist protection of radiation materials at the plant works. It is the most interesting issue for the seminar participants, - said Gennady Lutai, an expert of the UN Security Council Committee 1540. - But, of course, the scope of production is amazing. We know about the successes of Rosatom in Russia and abroad, how many stations are being built. And today we see the proof of it here!"

The OSCE seminar participants included representatives of Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Great Britain, Germany, Egypt, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Serbia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Croatia.

As a result of the visit, the observers highly appreciated the approach to the organization of safety of hazardous materials at Atommash. As part of the technical tour to Volgodonsk, the group also visited Rostov NPP.
